Chasing Dreams and Detours

The past few weeks have been crazy busy! I'll share more details later, but let's just say a lot of things are changing in the right direction. But more importantly,

I want to help you move in YOUR right direction.

As I mentioned before, the wheel of life was a powerful tool for assessing my current state and identifying areas for improvement. What truly helped me was diving deeper into each life chapter and understanding my dreams and goals within those specific areas. Journaling, using different prompts, and finding inspiration were all key parts of this process.

Now, I'm at the stage of defining my path forward. And guess what? It's more like Google Maps than a straight line. There might be traffic, detours, or even the need to change destinations entirely.

Let me share a personal example that illustrates this perfectly.

As a child, probably around 10 years old, I desperately wanted a dog. When a beautiful Bernese Mountain Dog needed a new home, I hatched a plan to secretly hide it in the attic! I envisioned elaborate scenarios for taking the dog out without anyone noticing, completely forgetting the logistical nightmares (like my aunt living directly below the attic!). My well-meaning but amused aunt gently pointed out the flaws in my plan, and ultimately, my dad confirmed that a dog wouldn't fit well with our existing cat family.

So, I played with every dog I could – aunts', uncles', friends' – throughout my childhood. As an adult, the dream resurfaced, but concerns about a full-time job held me back. Then, during covid, the opportunity arose again, but this time, there were hesitations with my partner at the time.

Finally, after moving out to start my own life, the doubts and concerns from others threatened to drown out my dream once more. However, the desire for a dog never truly faded. So, I went with a friend to see puppies, and there she was, a quiet and shy little soul tucked away in a corner. It was love at first sight.

Even then, a voice of doubt lingered in my head. But this time, the voice of my dream was louder.

Here's the biggest lesson I learned from this experience: The people around you care about you and want to protect you, which is wonderful. But it's crucial to learn to listen to your inner voice. What are your dreams, and what are you willing to sacrifice to achieve them?

In my case, I don't travel the world as much anymore, and exploring Europe by car looks different. But guess what? My puppy trainer offered a valuable piece of advice: "Design your life how you want it, and your dog will adapt." Turns out, Rose loves hotels, cafes, beaches, and snow! She jumps in the car with excitement, knowing it means adventure awaits. And, after the pandemic restrictions eased, my employer even changed their policy to allow dogs in the office!

Your circumstances might be different, but I challenge you:  What are your dreams? Which ones are you putting off? Is there a way, with small steps, to still get there?

Next week, we'll explore the power of designing your surroundings to embrace your dreams. We'll delve into how seemingly small changes in your environment can make a big difference in achieving your goals. Stay tuned!
